I am a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) in Anchorage, Alaska. As a trauma-informed clinician your safety and well-being is my priority. I specialize in working with difficult events you have experienced in life such as grief & loss and trauma including sexual abuse, physical abuse, and PTSD. I am trained in EMDR and work with past trauma. I work in individual, group, and family counseling throughout my evidence-based practice utilizing empirically supported treatment. I believe that as individuals we have the power to heal within ourselves and my mission as a counselor is to act as a gentle guide to help individuals find this healing and growth.
I teach Studio Arts at Alaska Pacific University and am a contemporary landscape artist in Alaska. I also specialize in creative arts therapy. All individuals possess the talent to create art, you do not have to be an artist to learn and enjoy this therapy. I have found a passion in teaching others the healing processes of creative arts therapy.
Past work in counseling here in Anchorage includes work with the Hospice of Anchorage in palliative care and bereavement (specifically working with women who have experienced pregnancy and infant loss), clinical therapy work at North Star Behavioral Hospital in Anchorage, and serving students as the Counselor in Residence through the University of Alaska Anchorage working primarily with sexual orientation and gender and identity, meeting individuals where they are at.
My greatest passion in this life is to see the world and get to know the people in it. I lived in Africa for two years in the Peace Corps, completed art residencies in Sweden and Iceland, and took a six month sabbatical from my career to travel through Asia. Travel benefits my practice and I acknowledge and recognize that cultural differences exist. I also honor and acknowledge that we as people are more alike than we think.
In the counseling process, we take one step at a time. The first step, the hardest step, may be making the call or email to get help. Take some time for yourself today to consider this courage and take this first small step towards self-care and wellness for you. Give yourself permission to grow and heal through the therapy process.
